About the Author
My name is MJ Head (he/they), I'm an emerging queer author based in Queensland, Australia. Currently, I am studying a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Creative Writing, at Queensland University of Technology. While focused on novel fiction, I openly explore various writing forms including creative non-fiction articles, poetry, and short stories, aiming to build upon my practice to create an extensive and diverse portfolio. I have been involved in various collaborative and interdisciplinary projects throughout my education.

I have been an avid reader my entire life and often found myself escaping the struggles of reality through fiction.
As a young queer author that found wonder in the mystical pages of The Magic Faraway Tree, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Percy Jackson, the representation of teenagers as authoritative explorers of life, identity, and meaning has always had an impact on me. I am delighted to be the source of that wonder and the voice for a new generation of explorers, adventurers, and heroes.
My current novel project explores themes of young queer identities and religious debate. I aim to publish this novel and use the fictional narrative form to appeal for social reform and foster a new generation of writers who value language, art, and inclusivity. I aspire to honour the legacy of my literary heroes Mary Shelley, Louisa May Alcott, C.S. Lewis, Enid Blyton, and Rick Riordan, and continue to explore the strength of adolescents while questioning the bounds of identity, science, and society.

Outside of my practice you can often find my nose stuck in a book or outside exploring nature with my family and our blue English Staffy, Brodie.
